Capturing the base

   Isometric view

   Set the camera to an isometric angle (Camera → Standard Views → Iso, or adjust it manually).

   Parallel Projection

   Enable Camera → Parallel Projection for a proper axonometric look, with no vanishing points.

   Capture or upload

   Use Capture Current Scene, or upload an image from your computer. A finished facade render also works.

The 5 styles

First pick the context. In Exterior, with surroundings, there are four styles: Technical Isometric, Highlighted Diagram, Colored with Context and Physical Mockup. In Interiors, with the room isolated, the style is Axonometric.

Getting a good diagram

• Parallel Projection. It's what gives the proper axonometric look, with no vanishing points.
• A clean screen. Hide axes, dimensions and reference objects before capturing: whatever is on screen goes into the diagram.
• Highlighted for competitions and posts. The eye goes straight to the project, and the gray surroundings give context without competing.

If the result isn't what you expected

• Massing different from the model: check that the capture was taken in Parallel Projection with the whole project visible, and generate again.
• You didn't like the result: generate again, since every generation comes out different, or try another style.

Quick questions

• Can I use a render as the base? Yes, either the SketchUp capture or a finished render.
• Can I write what I want? No. Diagram has no text field: the result comes from the context and style you choose.
